your attention is the million dollars

every thought you entertain is a purchase you're shipping home.

🧠 The Million Dollar Shopping Spree

i heard this thing on tiktok the other day..

imagine someone hands you a million dollars. go buy whatever you want. ship it all home.

but instead of buying things you like — you start filling your cart with the ugliest carpet you've ever seen. a table that makes you feel nothing. furniture that actively repels you. and you keep going.. buying more of it, shipping it all back to your place.

then you walk through the front door, look around, and go — why does my house feel terrible? why do i hate being here?

well.. because you filled it with things you didn't want.

💭 Same Thing With Your Head

that’s the part that stuck.

because it's the same thing with thoughts. exactly the same.

you spend all day saving anxiety for later. collecting stress. archiving fear. running the same worst-case scenarios on repeat — like you're building a library of things that make you worse.

and then you sit down at the end of the day and wonder why you feel heavy. why everything feels off. why the vibes in your own head are bad.

because you've been shopping for the wrong things.

you've been furnishing your brain with stuff that doesn't serve you — and then being confused when it doesn't feel like a place you want to live.

🔨 The Reframe

the part i keep coming back to is — it's the same amount of time either way.

the hours you spend spiraling? those are the same hours you could spend thinking about what you want to build. how you want to help. what skills you want to develop. who you want to work with.

not in a "just think positive" way — that's a bumper sticker. i mean the actual reallocation of mental energy toward things that have a net positive effect on your life.

it's a resource problem. your attention is the million dollars. and every thought you entertain is a purchase you're shipping home.

so what are you filling the house with?

anxiety about something that hasn't happened yet.. or the next thing you want to make?

fear of what people think.. or figuring out how to get better at the thing you care about?

🏠 The House You're Building

i think about this a lot because building is basically all i do. systems, projects, ideas — whatever. and the mental overhead of worrying about stuff that isn't productive.. it's not neutral. it actively takes from the budget.

every hour spent on stress is an hour not spent on the work.

and the work is the thing that actually changes how you feel. not the worrying. the worrying just redecorates the house with more ugly carpets.

anyway.. i don't think you can eliminate bad thoughts entirely. that's not the point. but you can notice when you're at the store picking up another thing you don't want — and put it back on the shelf.

what would your house look like if you only shipped home the things you chose?
